Jaindl to Host Tough Mudder Challenge

An endurance challenge dubbed 'Probably the Toughest Event on the Planet' comes to Raven Valley Farm, near North Whitehall, on June 1 and 2, and with it, some 22,000 participants.

Tough Mudder, dubbed "Probably the Toughest Event on the Planet," is coming to Raven Valley Farm June 1 and 2, bringing 22,000 participants in two days of endurance challenges.

David Jaindl, president of Jaindl Farms in North Whitehall and Jaindl Land Company, announced in a release that the farm company has agreed to lease 400 acres in Heidelberg and Lynn townships, for the challenge.

The grueling event is sold out for Saturday.

Registrations are still being accepted for Sunday.

Tough Mudder challenges consist of 10-plus mile obstacle courses designed by British Special Forces to test all around strength, stamina, mental grit and camaraderie, according to the release. Mudders can expect a challenging course that will contain new obstacles, varied terrain and epic views.

Tough Mudder, founded in 2010, is a supporter of the Wounded Warrior Project. To date, Mudders have raised more than $5 million to support thousands of troops returning from the battlefield, according to the release.

“We liked the idea of supporting the Wounded Warrior Project, and are particularly proud to be able to help Tough Mudder with raising funds for this worthy cause,” said Jaindl in the release.

“All money yielded to us through the lease of the property will be donated by Jaindl to Wounded Warrior Project and to local community organizations."

Evan Seely, operations manager at Tough Mudder, said that Tough Mudder events are estimated to pump $3 million to $5 million in local economies, as participants stay overnight in hotels and visit restaurants and other establishments.

Planning is under way for the event, which is expected to draw 6,000 cars and 150 buses. Tough Mudder has organized more than 60 events since 2010. There are 53 events scheduled for this year.

According to the release:

  • Traffic, Parking and Shuttles: Tough Mudder is working with local authorities and logistics experts to ensure that the event runs smoothly. Police and fire teams are involved in the process. Parking will be off-site.
  • Safety and Emergency Medical Transport: Tough Mudder prepares for responding to medical emergencies and caring for those who are injured during the event.
  • Volunteering: Tough Mudder is looking for at least 200 volunteers, who will be trained to pump up participants, keep the ice pits cold and hand out its orange headbands, among other tasks. Those who are interested in volunteering may find more information at www.toughmudder.com/volunteer.
