'SnowCare for Troops' Clears Path for Military Families

The nonprofit program connects volunteers with the families of active-duty servicepersons during the winter months.

As the wintry weather snaps in the days and weeks that remain of this season, one nonprofit organization is working to clear some minds as it clears some walkways across the country.

SnowCare for Troops is a national nonprofit project that pairs volunteers bearing shovels and community spirit with the families of active-duty servicepersons who are serving overseas.

In the four years the program has been active, it has matched some 1,400 volunteers with some 3,750 families across the country.

Participants include local contractors and average citizens; the initiative is managed by Project EverGreen and funded by THE BOSS Snowplow.

“It’s easy to take all of the everyday things like snow shoveling for granted,” said Project EverGreen Executive Director Cindy Code in a statement, "but when these tasks and other household chores fall to the family member left behind during a deployment the added stress takes a toll.”

The program is still seeking both volunteers to help pitch in and local military families interested in snow removal services

Project EverGreen also provides a similar initiative, GreenCare for Troops, which recruits volunteers to help manage lawn care and landscaping duties for the families of those deployed abroad.

Anyone interested in supporting the program materially can donate money, gas cards, or snow removal equipment as well.
