Volunteers 'Ride For Adam' and Raise Money for Research

The Ride for Adam in Schnecksville raised awareness and money to help find a cure for Niemann-Pick Type C Disease.

Bikers rolled out of Schnecksville—and back again—Saturday as the seventh annual Ride for Adam raised awareness and money to help find a cure for Niemann-Pick Type C Disease.

The 50-mile motorcycle ride is named for Adam Recke, 14, of Bethlehem Township, who suffers from the rare neurological degenerative disease. There is no cure.

The ride, which raises money for research, was followed by a picnic and fireworks at the Schnecksville Fire Company.

Adam Recke joined in the fun, riding sidecar and later taking the stage with the Armadillos band.

"We would like to thank Casey Stengel and all the volunteers who put this great event together," said Adam's mother, Amy Recke, who teaches in the Bethlehem schools. "There was lots of food, fun, and wonderful music! We can't say "Thank you" enough for all the great people who volunteer their time, energy, and goods to go to such a wonderful cause."

Adam's father, Sean, teaches at Salisbury Middle School.

Patch thanks Amy Recke for photos of the event.

Other photos are posted on the Race for Adam Facebook page. Information on how to donate to the cause, and other events, is available on the Race for Adam web page.
