200 Volunteers Needed for Tough Mudder Challenge

Some 22,000 people are expected to flock to the Raven Valley Farm near North Whitehall for the grueling Tough Mudder competition.

The Tough Mudder Challenge is looking for at least 200 volunteers to help at its exciting two-day grueling obstacle course competition June 1-2 at Raven Valley Farm in Heidelberg and Lynn townships

Volunteers will be trained to pump up participants, keep the ice pits cold and hand out orange headbands, among other tasks.

The event is expected to draw more than 22,000 participants arriving in 6,000 cars and 150 buses, organizers said.

David Jaindl, president of Jaindl Farms in North Whitehall and Jaindl Land Company, has agreed to lease 400 acres in Heidelberg and Lynn townships for the challenge.

Jaindl said he will donate all money from the lease of the property to the Wounded Warrior Project and to local community organizations.

Tough Mudder challenges consist of 10-plus mile obstacle courses designed by British Special Forces to test all around strength, stamina, mental grit and camaraderie. Mudders can expect a challenging course that will contain new obstacles, varied terrain and epic views.

  • Traffic, Parking and Shuttles: Tough Mudder is working with local authorities and logistics experts to ensure that the event runs smoothly. Police and fire teams are involved in the process. Parking will be off-site.
  • Safety and Emergency Medical Transport: Tough Mudder prepares for responding to medical emergencies and caring for those who are injured during the event.
  • Volunteering: Tough Mudder is looking for at least 200 volunteers, who will be trained to pump up participants, keep the ice pits cold and hand out its orange headbands, among other tasks. Those who are interested in volunteering may find more information at www.toughmudder.com/volunteer.

The grueling event is sold out Saturday but registrations are still being accepted for Sunday.
