Guns on Campus Vote Delayed

The chancellor of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education said more study was needed.

The Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education is delaying a vote on whether to allow guns in public areas of Pennsylvania’s 14 state-run universities.

The measure being considered would allow firearms in public areas of the state-run universities. They would not be allowed in dorms.

Pennsylvania’s state-run universities are Bloomsburg, California, Cheyney, Clarion, East Stroudsburg, Edinboro, Indiana, Kutztown, Lock Haven, Mansfield, Millersville, Shippensburg, Slippery Rock and West Chester.

A vote on the measure was anticipated for Jan. 23, but the chancellor of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, Frank T. Brogan, told The Philadelphia Inquirer that more study on the issue was needed. 

It was unclear when the vote will now be held.
