Strawberry Acres Developer Asks for Extension

North Whitehall Township Board of Supervisors will still hold meeting at Schnecksville Fire Company.

The developer of the proposed Strawberry Acres housing development in Laurys Station has asked for an extension to submit revised plans at the end of January, according to Township Manager Jeff Bartlett.

The conditional use hearing for the project, called Strawberry Farms, will still continue as scheduled at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Schnecksville Fire Company, but will be brief and largely a formality, Bartlett said.

The meeting was relocated to the fire company to accommodate the large crowds that had been anticipated before the developer asked for an extension to Jan. 31.

"There are a number of issues they want to take back to the Planning Commission to be reviewed before the Board of Supervisors hears the case," Bartlett said in an email to Patch.

"As per Municipal Planning Code regulations, the meeting must be held since it was previously continued and advertised. The Board will take action on the time extension but will not be discussing the application."

The Planning Commission tabled a decision on developer 5007 Overlook Road LLC's plan at their Aug. 27 meeting because commissioners said they needed more information and time to review the plan.

At that meeting, the developer presented a new plan that reduced the number of multi-family homes and townhouses from 144 units to more than 80 that would be built on 25 acres of the 100-acre Strawberry Acres farm on Overlook Road.

The developers have submitted a plan for an on-site sewage treatment plant, which the township is reluctant to oversee, Bartlett said.

Residents have expressed concerns about the sewage plant and increased traffic from the housing development.
