Pango Catapults Cities and Townships into Hotbeds for Innovative Technology

Pango Mobile Parking, a comprehensive parking payment and management system, is helping cities and townships become technologically savvy, while larger cities are falling behind the curve. With the help of Pango, Pennsylvania cities like Latrobe and Scranton are transitioning from a wallet-driven parking payment method to the convenience of the company’s Pay-by-Phone solution, changing the way cities and consumers approach parking. Drivers can now use their mobile phones to pay for parking at any on-street or off-street public metered parking space designated with a Pango sticker or equipped with Pango street signs, eliminating the hassle of using cash or carrying change.

Since launching Pango Mobile Parking in May 2012, the city of Scranton has logged 10,700 parking sessions and on-street parking revenue from June to August has increased nearly 25 percent from 2012 to 2013. Pango has had a remarkable penetration rate of over 10 percent in the city of Scranton a mere three months after implementation, and after one year of operation in Latrobe, residents are continuing to embrace the system.

Major metropolitan cities such as Philadelphia, Boston, and Chicago are hubs for the country’s most innovative technologies. However, they have yet to adopt Pango as an advanced mobile payment solution to address vehicle congestion and parking problems, despite most of them being included in the list of the 10 worst cities for drivers, as reported by NerdWallet (http://bit.ly/WFThaK).

“The ease and usability of Pango Mobile Parking has removed the usual stresses associated with parking for our drivers, and helped the city’s parking authorities be more efficient,” said Scranton Mayor, Christopher Doherty. “Scranton is known as the Progressive City, so we were eager to adopt a mobile technology that would make parking easier and more convenient. So far, our decision to implement Pango has been a success – we love it.”

By adopting the best-of-breed mobile parking platform, Scranton and Latrobe have put themselves on the map as cities embracing development and advancing technology in a way that is low cost to both the city and consumers. Pango has lowered operational costs and improved the city’s capability to monitor the parking activity on street in real time. The system allows municipalities to generate monthly real-time payment reports, providing crucial data for city revitalization programs. Pango’s convenience and ease of use has resulted in consistent parking enforcement with no parking complaints, and city officials and parkers in both Scranton and Latrobe applaud Pango for its seamless integration and positive impact.

Integrating the technology was seamless, and after just one year of implementation our streets have become more aesthetically pleasing, we've seen an increase in parking payment compliance and happier consumers parking in town," said Latrobe city manager, Alex Graziani.
